P.J. Whelihan’s Opening 15th Location in Malvern from the Ground Up (Sept. 18)

You won’t want to miss the very first P.J. Whelihan’s completely built from the ground up. The family-owned restaurant/pub is having its grand opening at this flagship location on Monday, September 18, and promises to give its fans the same quality, consistency and great food and beer they’ve come to expect from this brand. We got a sneak peek at the new location and can’t wait for you to experience Malvern’s newest good-time neighbor.

Situated within Charlestown Village—a new dining, retail and travel hub anchored by a Residence Inn by Marriott—this prime location is a striking presence. Designed by Stokes Architecture Design, the over 8,000-square-foot restaurant uses pitched roofs, a weathervane, oversized windows, colorful landscaping and a natural fieldstone, two-story entrance to welcome guests. A seasonal outdoor space toward the rear of the building seats about 40 and is anchored with Adirondack chairs and a glowing firepit.

The cavernous interior of the new P.J. Whelihan’s seats 250 and holds 54 wall-mounted, dynamic sound HDTVs ready to go with the NFL Sunday Ticket (every game available) to get football season off to a winning start. Natural and gray-stained wood tones throughout pop the plush, cream leather-backed booths to create a little privacy, with plenty of sports-friendly, pub-height tables surrounding the well-stocked, 40-seat bar. A four seasons room is set up off the main dining area (perfect for special occasions) with floor-to-ceiling garage door access, revealing the outdoors in nice weather.

The slew-of-brew list includes bottle and cans, as well as 48 rotating taps ready to serve national and international beers and P.J. Whelihan’s best-selling P.J.W. Copper Lager (a collaboration with Victory Brewing Company). An additional six taps are dedicated to local brews—2SP Brewing Company, Sly Fox Brewing Company, Conshohocken Brewing, Stirling Pig Brewery, Stable 12 and Levante Brewing—with a spirits nod to Stateside Urbancraft Vodka. Look for seasonal cocktails to make the rounds here as well.

The consistently solid lineup of P.J. Whelihan’s pub grub hits include tater tots, chili lime shrimp tacos, burgers, salads and those famous wings (last year, the company sold over 10 million wings) in 12 signature sauces, with the “wing of the month” not to be missed.

Bob Platzer, president and CEO of P.J.W. Restaurant Group, attributes the company’s success to “the amazing team of people I have the privilege to work with every day and the communities in which we operate. We’re very careful in how we choose future locations, and I couldn’t be more excited to bring our restaurant to Great Valley.”

Chris Webb, director of operations, adds, “We’re all about the family and the community. Our employees are like family, and they treat our guests the same way. We also pride ourselves in supporting neighborhood organizations and sports teams. We offer dine-and-donate programs where a specific percentage of the proceeds benefit local groups and charities, too.” So far this year, the organization has raised over $100,000 for the Ronald McDonald House.

Looking into the future, P.J. Whelihan’s is eyeing two other locations in Pennsylvania (Newtown Square, opening in December, and Lancaster, scheduled for next year).
