It’s so exciting to see how young innovators in the food and beverage industry are tackling the issues our world is facing with so much determination and imagination. Case in point: Humankind, a unique line of organic iced teas and lemonades that come in five custom-blended, perfectly sweet and balanced flavors made from real fruit (think organic strawberry lemonade and jasmine lime green tea). This Lancaster-based company does so much more than make tasty drinks, though. For every one bottle of Humankind iced tea or premium spring water sold, it donates enough clean water to one person for 100 days. Amazing, right?
We recently met Humankind’s sales and marketing manager, Haleigh Whitney, when she came in to the Pennsylvania Kitchen to share some refreshing summer recipes. Haleigh graduated from Messiah College with a degree in Business Administration in May of 2018. She first learned about the company when she went on a trip to the Dominican Republic to distribute clean water filters.
“I fell in love with the idea of a fully functioning for-profit company that also gives back,” she says.
Thanks to Haleigh’s hustle, Humankind has found a niche market in coffee shops. “It’s perfect, because my favorite pastime is going on coffee dates with my friends!” she says. “I love food and trying new restaurants (Sukhothai, Callaloo and Himalayan are three of my faves in Lancaster) which is definitely furthered by my love of travel.”
Check out a little behind-the-scenes video with Haleigh, and be sure to follow along with Humankind on Instagram and Facebook. Then, stay tuned for some clever, delicious recipes from Humankind, set to keep you cool all season long!
