Enjoy all flavors of a scratch made apple pie á la mode with a fraction of the work. Slice up your apples and gently coat with lemon juice, cinnamon and sugar. Add a pinch of nutmeg to the apple mixture for extra flavor and spice. Then, cover with a generous topping of buttery, brown sugar oatmeal crust before baking to perfection. Ingredients
- 6 medium apples, such as Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, Gala or Fiji, peeled, cored and sliced
- 1 lemon, juiced, or 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup light brown sugar, packed
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- Vanilla ice cream, for serving
Method
- Preheat oven to 350°F. Lightly grease an 8×8-inch baking dish with cooking spray and set aside.
- Combine apples, lemon juice, granulated sugar and cinnamon in a large bowl and toss to coat. Transfer apples to prepared baking dish in an even layer.
- Combine oats, flour, brown sugar, butter and salt in a separate small bowl, using fingertips to combine, until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Sprinkle oat mixture evenly over apples.
- Bake until topping is golden-brown and apples are tender, about 40-45 minutes.
- Remove from oven and let cool slightly before serving. Top with a scoop of ice cream and enjoy.
