Looking to pack your planners with the region’s best Halloween activities? Eager to try something new beyond the over-the-top haunted houses? Look no further than Chaddsford Winery, which will host its fun-filled Trick or Treat Tastings for the remaining weekends of October.
Curious what makes this wine tasting so worthy of your attention? PA Eats hit the scene this past weekend for the full scoop and has six reasons why we’d do it all over again. Discover ‘em below.
Reason 1: Top-Notch Wine Pairings
The knowledgeable team at this Chaddsford-based winery outdid themselves in developing well-thought-out—and plain fun!—food pairings that were of the Halloween persuasion. Going beyond the standard candy-with-wine partnership, they collected locally produced goods and matched their flavor profiles with their most appropriate releases. You’ll find cult-followed favorites like Herr’s Snacks, Just Born (ghost peeps!) and Sweetzels on the food pairing bill, as well as our #1 seasonal obsession—Northbrook Marketplace apple cider doughnuts!
Our favorite pairing of the day? The Chaddsford White with lemon cookies—together the duo creates the ultimate lemon meringue pie experience.
Reason 2: Sampling the Brand-New Batch of Hard Cider
This past summer, the news dropped that Chaddsford Winery would be expanding into the hard cider game. But, it was just this weekend that they revealed their latest, sharpest batch and new refined look. Even better, during the progressive trick-or-treat tasting, the hard cider was served on draft, which gives it a slight carbonation and a tart finish. Then, back in the tasting room, you have the opportunity to snag a non-carbonated bottle (or two) for later—which we couldn’t pass up doing ourselves. We have to admit, being able to taste it through our Chaddsford Winery tour pushed us over the edge in wanting more. Consider this sampling a highlight of our trick-or-treating experience!
Reason 3: Explore Chaddsford Winery Like Never Before
This isn’t just any wine tasting in one singular room. During this month-long event, you get to explore the nooks and crannies of the estate itself, going deep into cellars and basements, an eye-catching cottage and more. The tasting tour allows you to see the winery’s property like never before and of course, the staff has a sense of humor too (it’s Halloween after all!). You’ll want keep an eye out for the historic spook factors—they may be hidden but they are alive and ready to make you jump!
Even better bonus: Chaddsford Winery’s tasting room was recently redone—and it’s looking gorgeous. This will be one of the first times you’ll be able to scope that out too!
Reason 4: Fun to Be a Kid Again
We can’t help but drive home the fact that for this event, you are actually trick-or-treating—except this time, wine is involved. You need to seek out the treats (read: food and wine pairings) as part of the event. We never found more enjoyment in having to seek out our local wine!
Reason 5: Food Trucks Join the Halloween Party
Need a break from the largely sweet treat-themed food pairings? Each weekend, Chaddsford Winery invites local food trucks to join the festivities. On our recent visit, Luigi & Giovanni rolled onto the property, slinging an incredible assortment of Italian cheeses and cured meats, olives and roasted peppers and a fine-tuned array of sandwiches.
Next up: The Grill Cheese, Philly Fry, My Four Suns and Pizzeria Pronto are slated to offer savory options. Visit Chaddsford Winery’s event page for the schedule.
Reason 6: Souvenir Halloween Wine Glasses
Exclusive for this month’s event, Chaddsford Winery has released Halloween-themed keepsake wine glasses, with a different design available each weekend. From October 17–18, score a bat-logoed glass; from October 24–25, ghosts will adorn your drink wear; and from October 31–November 1, it’ll be Jack-o-Lanterns on your drinking vessel.
Eager to join in on the Trick or Treat Tastings? Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 if purchased on-site. The event will run October 17–18, October 24–25 and October 31–November 1.
