The Great Pizza Debate: Who Has the Best Pies in Downingtown?

It looks as though the people of Downingtown have a serious love of pizza. We recently pitched the question, “Who’s got the best pizza in Downingtown?” on our Facebook page. We figured we might hear from a few die-hard pizza lovers out that way. We never could have imagined such passionate and engaging responses from such a simple question. Well, people of Downingtown, you’ve spoken. And we heard you. Keep reading for a full report on the pizza scene in Downingtown.

Downingtown’s Top Rated Pizza Places:

Lione’s Pizza

Lione’s Pizza of Downingtown received the most responses to our Facebook post by far. Kerry of West Chester specifically mentioned Lione’s tomato pie, stating it was “right up there with Corropolese in Norristown.” And he wasn’t the only reader to comment on this dish. Anthony of West Chester also explained that “Lione’s puts a lot into their tomato pie sauce—unlike most shops, it is a separate recipe and prep altogether.” Claire of Downingtown gave an honorable mention to Lione’s, sharing that they have a “fresh, great variety (all day), beautiful presentation, friendly staff.” Did we give you enough reasons to get yourself over there?

Caln Pizza & Pasta

Second place votes ended in a tie. Caln Pizza & Pasta received quite a few nods in the battle for best pizza in Downingtown. Mark of West Bradford told us that Caln Pizza is simply “the best!” Fellow PA Eats foodie Nina also agreed, hands down, that Caln Pizza serves the best pizza around.

Foster Boys Pizza

Also coming in at second place was Foster Boys Pizza. Dave of Coatesville let us in on a few specials that run during the week. Check out two pizzas for $18.99 every Tuesday and Thursday, and enjoy $5 house pizzas on Wednesdays. Rosemary, also from Coatesville, also seemed to agree with the masses, naming Foster Boys Pizza her favorite shop in Downingtown. And two locals, James and Kate, recommended that you must try the house pan pizza.

Sam’s Pizza

Holding steady in third place votes was Sam’s Pizza of Downingtown. Selena of Downingtown mentioned their pepperoni, sausage and mushroom pizza as her favorite. (Yum!) Another reader, Sarrah, couldn’t decide between Lione’s and Sam’s. Ultimately, she loved the fact that Sam’s delivered. That’s a big time plus on a rainy day.
