Fans of the West Chester scene—and who isn’t?—can look forward to a tasty addition this fall when The Couch Tomato Café opens its doors at 31 W. Gay St.
Owners Craig Mosmen and Michael Cassano are bringing the winning menu from their Manayunk restaurant of the same name to the Dub-C’s hungry masses with one delicious addition: a wood-fired brick oven.
What else is in store? Check the top five reasons to keep an eye out for opening day:
5. Wood-Fired Brick Oven Pizza
The aforementioned wood-fired brick oven is a huge draw. The high, consistent temperature means pizzas and other foods cook quickly and with a special flavor only this type of oven can deliver. Sample the gluten-free pizza—amazing!
4. House-Made Sauces and a From-Scratch Kitchen
Craig and Michael pride themselves on their fresh food, and their house-made sauces are some of the best. Not only are they scrumptious, but they’re also vegetarian, vegan and/or gluten-free. Drool over the usual favorites, or try ancho-honey, fresh pears, pimento cheese or vegan cheese. These saucy choices join a great lineup of locally sourced meats, vegetables and cheeses, including organic and antibiotic free, that are whipped up daily into made-fresh-on-site menu delights.
3. BYOB
The Couch Tomato Café opened 11 years ago as a reasonably priced gourmet pizza and specialty salad establishment, a welcome alternative to Manayunk’s pricier places. The West Chester location will further extend that concept as a BYOB. Patrons may bring their own libations to accompany their favorite menu selections.
2. Roof Deck Garden Seating
As if the brand-spankin’-new interior isn’t comfortable enough, an environmentally friendly green-roof garden overlooking bustling West Chester will give customers a new al fresco option. Take in a sunny afternoon lunch, a sunset dinner or a star-studded evening nosh. The rustic inside will also give a nod to the environment while oozing ambiance with reclaimed wood, exposed brick walls, accordion sidewalk windows and high ceilings.
1. A Free Slice on Grand Opening Day
Craig and Michael invite everyone to taste the food, take in the casual and upbeat vibe and meet them and their top-notch staff on the restaurant’s Grand Opening Day (Saturday, January 31), when they’ll be handing out a free gourmet slice fresh out of the wood-fired brick oven for all who stop by.
