Win and Sutida Somboonsong, owners of Win Signature Restaurants, are proud to open their eighth property, “MIXX” in the downstairs space, formerly the home of “Maia Market” to Main Line diners. This latest addition re-opens the 22,000 square foot space in its entirety and builds on their impressive portfolio of distinct dining in the Western Philadelphia Suburbs that includes: Azie On Main in Villanova, Azie Media, Teikoku, Mikado Thai Pepper, Flavor and Parker’s Prime. It is located in the lower level, in the Villanova Center, on 789 East Lancaster Avenue, Villanova. MIXX provides an ideal drop-in-anytime spot and is conveniently located just off I-476, the R5 Line and down the street from Villanova University. The focus will be on the bar and will feature an unintimidating menu of updated comfort food classics with global influences, created by Corporate Chef and partner Takao Iinuma.
The menu is based in comfort food offerings, with an average entrée around the $10 mark and nothing over $18 is designed to nurture the wallet as well as the soul. Chef de cuisine, Chay Aniwat, will oversee the kitchen and the menu that includes: Crispy house-spiced buttermilk fried chicken, with mango coleslaw; Shrimp macaroni and cheese, studded with rock shrimp and laced with both cheddar and parmesan cheeses; Tender cornbread hush puppies, with a honey-chipolata dipping sauce; Mouthwatering BBQ baby back ribs, with a Cajun dry rub and pineapple glaze; The signature MIXX chopped salad, loaded with tomatoes, apples, avocados, cucumbers, red onions, bacon, walnuts, blue cheese, dressed in a honey Dijon dressing. The menu includes a full range of satisfying entrees as well as sandwiches, burgers and homemade brick oven pizzas to fulfill any craving.
The dining room’s whimsical, rustic, yet refined elegance is echoed in the use Parisian influences and industrial materials. The accents of French inspired chandeliers that dangle over head, antique whitewashed brick walls, floor to ceiling windows, massive stainless steel wrap around bar, glass-encased wine barrels, damask print and butter-colored seating along with mosaic tiled floors create an inviting, casual environment. The chalkboards, tall framed-glass doors and open spaces suggest a neighborhood hotspot as well as comfortable socializing with friends and colleagues. MIXX is the perfect backdrop for private dinners, presentations and parties. It offers both intimacy and expanse, from the 30 seat private dining room to the restaurants 200 + available seats. The design firm behind this architecturally beautiful, warm, smart and sophisticated restaurant that offers a total of 240 seats is New York-based Studio A Design. They are the successful team behind Mokai Lounge in Miami and Chelsea Landmark Residential Tower in Manhattan.
Takao Iinuma, Corporate Chef and partner, born and raised in Japan, has commanded kitchens at some of the world’s top rated restaurants. He received his formal training at Japan’s prestigious Hattori Nutrition College and included an apprenticeship in Tokyo’s Karin restaurant located in the Ana Hotel before embarking on his culinary journey. Chef Iinuma has competed on the popular television series, Iron Chef Japan, winning seventy five percent of his forty match ups. Reflecting his extensive experience, Chef Iinuma has served as Executive Chef for Morimoto restaurant in Philadelphia, Wasabi by Morimoto in Mumbai and was appointed Corporate Chef of Morimoto in Washington, D.C. Chef Iinuma has served as Corporate Chef for Win Signature Restaurants since 2006. Through this long journey, Win Signature restaurants is honored to provided MIXX, another outlet for Chef Iinuma to display his culinary creativity.
Win and Sutida Soomboonsong have been synonymous with great food and hospitality on the Main Line for over 20 years. The Thai immigrants, parents to four children are the dynamic force behind Win Signature Restaurants. They opened their first property, Thai Pepper in Ardmore in 1991. Four more restaurants followed suit with the opening of Flavor in Wayne in 1997, Mikado in Ardmore in 1999, Teikoku in Newtown Square in 2003, Azie in Media in 2007, Azie On Main in Villanova and Parker’s Prime in Newtown Square in 2009. This winter they are set to welcome their newest culinary offspring, MIXX in Villanova.
General Manger, Katrin Haring, formerly of Azie Media and The Marshalton Inn, has created a beverage program featuring twenty wines under $40, ten specialty cocktails, twelve draft beers and fifteen bottled offerings. Assistant manager, Jamie Morris, formerly of Azie in Media, will be in charge of running the day to day operations.
Whether in cocktail attire or a pair of jeans, MIXX is your “home away from home” with an urban vibe, comfort all the time, anytime and for any occasion. MIXX is open Monday through Thursday, 11:30 am until Midnight; Friday and Saturday, 11:30 am until 2 am; Sunday, 11am until 10 pm with brunch served from, 11am until 2:30 pm.
