We all have experienced post-church, hangover-nursing or even corporate breakfast gatherings but there is a new breakfast on the rise. Singles are testing the waters with breakfast dating (Well, we are at least.).
And maybe it’s not such a bad idea. In the morning one can dress to impress with fresh-from-the-shower makeup and hair. Or, they can sport the casual check-out-what-I-look-like-without-makeup-in-sweats look with no dim bar lighting to save them.
The daybreak meal is refreshing and truthful. With the exception of mimosas or Bloody Marys, the morning provides a substance-free perception of dating potentials (Yes, it can be helpful to see what someone actually looks like sober and in the daylight.).
And morning menu options are becoming broad enough to satisfy anyone’s taste. Choices range from savory to sweet. If the alarm goes off late, brunch options can be explored (Mmmm brunch. Just the mention of brunch makes my heart flutter.).
Time spent over coffee is a perfect chance to get to know each other, and if it goes well you have the option of spending an entire day together.
“I love breakfast dates,” says Michelle of West Chester, “because if the date is headed downhill, there are a variety of excuses to use. Like, I’m meeting my mother to pull weeds or I have to let my neighbor’s dog out. They can usually take the hint. But if it’s going well, we can go on a hike or a walk or catch a movie.”
Although there is no guarantee that your morning date will be a keeper, breakfast dating is still a great get-together time for potentials, friends and family. And, at the very least you can get a super yummy meal out of it and still have room for dinner with someone else!
Breakfast dating tip from WC Dish:
Did you know that what someone orders gives a lot of insight into their personality? A recent date of mine whom my friends and I referred to as Breakfast Date #2 was cute and sweet, but he ordered the same thing each time we went for breakfast. Scrambled eggs and white toast. If he was feeling adventurous, he would request wheat toast.
Turned out his personality was as lively as his tastes. I rarely wanted to share food with him (I know what scrambled eggs taste like), and I had just as much (if not more) fun eating alone. Although he scored bonus points for helping me organize my menu collection on Valentine’s day, it wasn’t enough to have future breakfasts or anything else with him.
The Final Dish: I still see Breakfast Date #2 from time to time at my favorite place, but I usually just smile, glance at his scrambled eggs and walk past him for a table for one.
Here’s the deal with my favorite breakfast place in Chester County that’s perfect for a table for one or two or more! If you haven’t been here to know for yourself you are missing out!

Why it’s great for families?
The downtown location is perfect for families gathering after church and the menu is full of options to please even the pickiest eater. My niece loves the chocolate chip pancakes and chocolate milk. My mother loves the omelet fillings, including gourmet cheeses, and my father loves the homemade super-creamy (with a hint of sherry) sausage gravy over biscuits. My brother digs the Bruno Burrito, which is andouille sausage gravy, fried eggs, cheddar cheese and hash browns all wrapped up in a garlic herb tortilla and oh so good! I always steal a bite, of course.
Why it’s great for singles?
With the music, decorative pop art (for sale), stainless-steel counter seating and trendy young staff, Market Street Grille embodies the word chill. And I do just that with my paper and the menu. The chef, Darla, is phenomenal and creates masterpieces that the Food Network couldn’t dream up. Last week I dined on peach, almond and white-chocolate pancakes (one of which was the size of my head). But, I was tempted by the ahi tuna ceviche benedict. If I’m watching my diet I’ll order a veggie omelet, which is always packed with awesome combinations of fresh veggies – and once I even got pecans and apples.
The prices are reasonable, so a single gal (or guy) can easily afford it. Specials are mostly less than $10 (except for seafood specials) and the portions are well worth the price.
Why it’s great for couples?
The place is positively charming. Some may not love the cramped seating and sometimes-wobbly tables (which I find endearing) but it appeals to couples looking for an eclecticly intimate atmosphere.
Portions are large enough to share. Some yummy sharing selections are the homemade granola parfait or a creamy milkshake…with two straws of course.
