Ready or not, here it comes: Thanksgiving! Turkey Day is just a few weeks away, and we know that with everyone’s busy schedules, executing the perfect family meal can be a daunting task. Luckily, Weaver’s Orchard is coming to the rescue with everything you need for the best Thanksgiving ever. Read on for all the juicy details:
The Star of the Show
If you want the freshest turkey around, Weaver’s is the place to go. Choose from a 12- to 24-pound or, if you’ve got a larger group coming to your home for the holidays, a 30+-pound whole turkey. Weaver’s also has 6- to 14-pound portions for turkey breasts if that’s what you’d prefer. And these aren’t just any turkeys. The birds that come to Weaver’s to grace the center of your Turkey Day table are raised at The Howe Farm in Downingtown, where Weaver’s meat department manager, David Howe, was brought up. David’s brother Nathan and sister-in-law Julie now run the farm and raise their all-natural, all-vegetarian-fed poultry without hormones or antibiotics. Because theirs is a smaller operation, turkeys are never frozen and arrive at Weaver’s straight from the farm. For more information on this local family-run business, check out this article on the Weaver’s Orchard website.
As far as cooking your turkey, take this advice from Weaver’s for the picture-perfect main course: Cook uncovered for the first 30–45 minutes at 425 degrees. This will give you a crisp skin and seal in the juices. Then, cover your bird and turn down the temperature to 350 degrees for the remaining time (12–15 minutes per pound). Easy-peasy!
Pricing for turkeys is $3.29/pound for whole turkeys and $7.49/pound for bone-in turkey breasts. Order by November 18 to ensure that you get the size turkey you need. Call (610) 856-7300, and turkeys will be ready for pick-up the Tuesday and Wednesday before Thanksgiving.
Don’t Forget the Sides
It’s not just about the bird, you know. That’s why Weaver’s is also making it simple as can be for you to serve up sides that will impress even the most finicky guest. The orchard’s savory vegetable pies come frozen and ready to bake. Pop them in the oven and voila! You’ve got an array of fantastic sides—no chopping or prep work involved. Choices include cheesy broccoli, spinach potato, tomato, creamy potato pea and onion mushroom.
Save Room for Dessert
It’s a well-known fact that Thanksgiving just isn’t Thanksgiving without pie. What’s your pleasure: apple, apple caramel, apple berry, blackberry, blueberry, cherry, chocolate, peach, pumpkin, shoo fly, strawberry, sweet potato? (We’ll take one of each, please.) The bakers at Weaver’s make their goodies fresh every day, so you know they’re the experts when it comes to crafting the perfect flaky crust and packing it with just the right amount of fruit and other fillings. See the many, many (35+!) pie possibilities—sugar-free, too—and pricing on this order form. When you’ve made your choice, download the form and submit it via email or by faxing to (610) 856-1290.
If pie’s just not your thing (we don’t understand that, but to each his own …), Weaver’s also has apple dumplings, pumpkin rolls, cookies, whoopie pies and more—just right for each and every sweet tooth at the table. Find them all on the orchard’s website.
And Breakfast, Too!
Mom, you’ve worked hard. Why not indulge in a luxurious breakfast in bed on Friday? Weaver’s fresh-baked, homemade apple cider donuts are the perfect treat for day-after snacking. Be sure to add a dozen or two to your pie order form—these seasonal goodies only come around one time a year! And whatever you do, don’t forget the cider. Weaver’s award-winning, no-preservatives-added, 100% apple cider is the perfect partner to your much-deserved treat. Enjoy—and have a very Happy Thanksgiving!
