When you think of holidays in February, you probably immediately think of Valentine’s Day or perhaps even Presidents’ Day. But there is a holiday you may not have heard of yet—National Drink Wine Day. No, we aren’t making this up. There is a whole day every year, February 18, that celebrates drinking wine.
According to the National Drink Wine Day website, “The purpose of National Drink Wine Day is to spread the love and health benefits of wine. Wine has played an important role in history, religion and relationships. We embrace the positive benefits of wine such as new friends, reduced risk of heart disease and the enhancement of food and life.”
Locally, Chaddsford Winery is hosting a National Drink Wine Day event that you should definitely get on your schedule. Thursday, February 18, swing by the winery from noon–6 p.m. for a free wine tasting. That’s right—free! Not only will you get to taste some of Chaddsford Winery’s award-winning wines, you’ll also get to take home a keepsake glass and enjoy a 10% discount on bottles of wine.
How is Chaddsford Winery’s winemaker Jim Osborn going to celebrate the day? He shares, “Since winter still has its icy grip on us, I think I’ll pull out the ‘ole crock pot in the morning and throw in a pork shoulder drowned in our 2014 Artisan Series Traminette and sauerkraut. Coming home after a day working in the cold wine cellar, the house will be filled with the aroma of comfort food waiting. I’ll roast up some root veggies covered in olive oil, fresh thyme and rosemary as a side and crack open a second bottle of Traminette. The notes of honey and apricot fruit pairing with this hearty meal are going to blow my taste buds away and make me warm all over.”
Follow Jim’s lead and head to Chaddsford Winery on February 18 for this fun and tasty celebration. And don’t forget to raise your glass and say, “Cheers!” to the guy who came up with this brilliant idea.
