Love sushi and other Japanese-style foods but don’t have the time for an elaborate sit down meal? Enter Kondu—a new Harrisburg eatery that takes all the flavors of traditional Japanese menu items and serves them up in a fast casual environment. Think Chipotle or Qdoba Mexican Eats, but with a new and different type of cuisine. The owner of this intriguing concept is Ricky Chen, who also owns Shogun Asian Fusion.
While the sushi takes the shape of a traditional burrito, the rolls are not made with tortillas, but with large sheets of nori. The handheld rolls are quick to make and easy to eat on-the-go and without utensils. Highlights of the menu include the the El Torro, made from steak, pico de gallo, lettuce, jalapeno, red onion, baby spinach and eel sauce, and the No Name made with spicy tuna, surimi crab, guacamole, cucumber, purple cabbage, eel sauce and honey mustard.
Kondu also speeds up traditional teppanyaki. Rather than sitting around a hibachi grill and waiting for a chef to cook up your food and put on a show, Kondu’s chefs quick cook over the hibachi with choice of vegetable, chicken, steak or shrimp presented in a bowl for dine-in or to-go.
Available sides include edamame, seaweed salad and gyoza. Most dishes are under $10, so it is not only quick, but affordable!
Current hours are Monday–Thursday from 10:30 a.m.–9 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 10:30 a.m.–9:30 p.m. and 11 a.m.–9 p.m. on Sunday.
Find Kondu at 3501 Paxton St. in Harrisburg (Harrisburg Mall in Swatara Twp.); phone: 717-525-9738.
