Timothy’s, the latest bar and restaurant to open in West Chester, is off to a hopping start.
The former space of the Courtyard Inn has been transformed into a family friendly sports bar and restaurant by two graduates of West Chester University, Timothy Dever and Mark Gosik. They’ve done an admirable job in keeping the sports theme of the restaurant toned down. Although flat screens show the latest sports and framed football jerseys line the walls, the space is also light and welcoming for those who are sports averse. On the night we ate dinner there, my date noted songs from Neil Diamond and Olivia Newton John playing on the speakers.
The giant rectangular bar is situated in the center of the restaurant and was crowded both nights I stopped in. To the right, past the bar is a seating section which consists of bar top high tables. To the left of the front door is a dining area with traditional tables and chairs. Timothy’s also has a private banquet room that holds up to sixty people.
For dinner, my date started out with a cup of sweet and spicy chili, prepared with beef, onions and peppers in the recipe. It was a nice surprise to see the cup of chili served on a plate with nachos, lettuce, salsa and sour cream.
I ordered the half-pound burger for $9.99, which includes your choice of cheese and one topping. Additional toppings cost extra. I chose the bleu cheese crumbles and sautéed mushrooms. The burger was solidly built and grilled well.
My date chose the grilled cheese and bacon. This gourmet sandwich came out on a grilled brioche bread with applewood smoked bacon, cheddar and sharp American cheese and included a side of ranch dressing for $7.99.
Some other interesting appetizer items on the menu include: Voodoo Shrimp. Crabby Dip, and Baltimore Bay Crabby Fries. Timothy’s makes gourmet pizzas with several unique toppings, including a Lump Crab and Old Bay Pizza. The menu offers several sandwich choices. Entrees include Timothy’s Signature Ribs, Fish and Chips, Jambalaya Pasta and Andouille Meatloaf.
For being only open for a few days, Timothy’s appeared to be running fairly smoothly. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. The food was delivered quickly and everything was hot and tasty. The only notable absence was the lack of a beer menu, which we were told is coming soon. The beer selection recited by my waitress consisted mainly of domestic beers including Lion’s Head Lager. Their craft beer selection is limited.
Timothy’s of West Chester is located in the Parkway Shopping Center at 929 South High Street, West Chester, PA. Phone number is 610-887-8771. They are open every day from 11am to 2am. Everything on their menu is available for takeout.
