The Simpson Meadows Retirement Community is holding its first ever Meadows Rocks! event on March 10, 2012 from 1 – 5 pm. Meadows Rocks! is a rockin’ afternoon of fun, games and prizes benefitting Simpson Meadows. And, take note: the event’s schedule has something fun for everyone!
Corporate and community rocker teams of 3-5 members will be supplied with a Cracker Barrel Slat Back Rocker to use during the competition. Corporate Sponsors, residents, businesses and families are forming rocker teams. Among the more than fifteen (15) teams are the “Young Punk Rockers,” led by Liz Young; “Meadowlarks Rocks,” whose members are singers in the Simpson Meadows Meadowlarks Chorus; Clara and Her Rockettes, with grandmother Clara and her three granddaughters; and the Rock Lobsters, led by Cal and Betty Wilder who moved to Simpson Meadows from Maine.
Throughout the afternoon their enthusiastic emcee, Jim Dawson, will set the pace by announcing activities and congratulating winners. Live bands including Ka-Pow! and Smacking Madison will play throughout the afternoon offering enjoyment and variety for nearly every taste! VIPs and community personalities including Downingtown Mayor Josh Maxwell, Downingtown Fire Chief Gregg Nelms, Commissioner Kathi Cozzone, TownDish.com Founder Mary Bigham, and others. The VIPs will serve as judges to bestow “instant” Rockin’ Rocker Rewards, as well as judge the Hottest Rocker Hot Seat Challenges.
The “Rockin’ Rocker Rewards” will be given randomly and spontaneously throughout the two hour rocking period to honor rocker enthusiasm, attitude, team spirit, costumes, etc. For the Hottest Rockers Hot Seat Challenge, four rocking chairs placed in the center of the room. Every 15 minutes emcee Jim Dawson will call one member from each of four randomly selected teams to come to the Hot Seats. There, they will participate in the Hottest Rocker Hot Seat Challenges – a game of skill such as “Whistlin’ Crackers” or “Clothes Pins in a Bottle” – all while rocking! The VIP Judges will determine the winners and award prizes.
The ever-popular Simpson Meadows’ Gift Baskets will also be on display with raffle tickets sold in advance, as well as throughout the afternoon. The Gift Baskets drawing will be held during the finale. Children’s activities such as clowns, face painting, and a “Rockin’ Rocker” coloring contest will be available free of charge.
The “Off Your Rocker” Rock Star Awards Finale will feature P.J. Whelihan’s serving their signature dishes to all rockers and fans. Presentations will include sponsor recognition, as well as awards for highest funds raised per team in the community division; highest funds raised per person in the community division; oldest rocker; youngest rocker; highest team combined rocker age per team; lowest team combined rocker age per team and team with the highest number of related generations.
