You’ll want to hurry over to Victory Brewing Company and take a swig of this limited-time spring seasonal that, last I looked, was still on tap and, thankfully, is available in bottles.
Swing Session Saison brings the fruit with citrus right up front: I found grapefruit and lemon tones prevail. The tartness is refreshing, especially on the finish, and has me longing for warm spring days. And another beer, please.
This delightful session brew has the cloudy look and feel of a traditional saison: light in body with a gorgeous golden-yellow hue, plus a foamy head that lingers. I tasted it along with a cadre of West Chester Beer Ladies during the In Like a Monkey breakfast event (such tough duty and, yes, I did have a White Monkey, too). Those present concurred that Swing Session Saison delivers a bit of spice and pepper, some floral notes and a hint of toasty bread.
Skillfully brewed with German malt and grains, and then delicately hopped with German and American hops, the secret sauce is in the spicing: peppercorns, orange peel and fresh lemon zest. Oh and let’s not forget those Belgian saison yeasts.
Swing Session Saison is an easy drinking bev at 4.5% ABV. Victory recommends pairing it with soft pretzels and mussels, both of which are on the menu. I can tell you it pairs well with breakfast, as I quaffed it alongside a spinach and mushroom quiche and breakfast potatoes, while my partners in crime enjoyed it alongside eggs, sausage and taters, and even sticky buns.
I can’t resist the cliché: it’s not just for breakfast! But it is a limited run, so swing by today.
