Nirvana Replaces Conshohocken’s 401 Diner — Modern Indian by Night, Classic Diner by Day

Conshohocken’s landmark 401 Diner is now Nirvana (BYOB)! Owner Nabin Chhantyal and Chef Jagmeet “Happy” Singh have been quietly implementing a modern fusion of Indian classics that are as beautiful as they are tasty. The 401’s regular diner fare will continue to be offered every day for breakfast and lunch. In addition, Indian lunch will be a daily changing prix fixe menu with a choice of appetizer or soup and a main course, lentils, rice and Naan bread (a daily vegetarian option is also offered) for $9.95 plus tax. “We want people to try different items every day, so they can get familiar with Indian food,” explains Chhantyal, former owner and chef of Aman’s Indian Cuisine in East Norriton.

Chef Happy Singh, who honed his craft working alongside Chef Prem Nath Motiram, a veteran of the esteemed Bombay Palace restaurants in New York, Montréal, Singapore and Tokyo, is pushing the limits of what is traditional into a new fresh twist on the classics. From flaming presentations to colorful edible terrariums, his goal is to wow guests, going above and beyond their expectations. He concludes, “When you love to cook, it’s not your work, it is your passion.”

The dinner menu features appetizers like Bird’s Nest Chhat, a crispy potato nest stuffed with puffed rice; Stone Fish, tilapia filet cooked with ginger, garlic and lemon; and Chicken 65, cooked with curry leaves, mustard seeds and yogurt. Entrees from the Tandoor clay oven include Tandoori Chicken, Tiger Shrimp, Tandoori Salmon, Indian Spiced Tandoori Steak, and Lamb Chops. Other traditional Indian entrees include vegetarian dishes, Chicken Tikka Masala, Lamb Roganjosh, Shrimp Vindaloo and special Biryani rice dishes.

Nirvana is located at 401 Fayette Street in Conshohocken; phone: (484) 351-8029.
