With the weather getting warmer, many want to head out and plant some flowers and veggies. Why not enjoy the planting season by lending a helping hand as well? The Chester County Food Bank is currently seeking volunteers for planting and much more.
There are many opportunities in which you can volunteer a few hours of your time and help those who need it. The following are some of the locations which could use a few good men and women to help out.
Pete’s Produce and Farm (May 13 and May 20)
Located in West Chester, Pete’s Produce and Farm is looking for some help for staff farmers, Bill and Marie. Volunteers will be planting onions and lettuce on both days. Volunteers must be at least 12 years of age and have an adult with them if under 16. If interested, click here to volunteer.
Sankanac CSA (May 14 and May 21)
If you are located in the Phoenixville area or close by, why not volunteer at Sankanac CSA? Volunteers will be planting cabbage, potatoes and broccoli on these days at Sankanac. If you are 12 years of age and older, you can volunteer. Just remember to bring a parent with you if under 16. Click here to sign up.
Springton Manor Farm (May 21)
Help Farmer Bill at Springton Manor Farm on 5/21. No experience is necessary to volunteer. 12 and older to volunteer (must have a parent present if under 16). Sign up here.
Charlestown Farm (May 19)
The sweet potatoes need to be planted at Charlestown Farm in Phoenixville and you can help. 12+ years of age (under 16 must have an adult present). Sign up here to help Bill and Marie get the planting done.
Vollmecke Orchards and CSA (May 12 and May 13)
As a partner of the Food Bank, Vollmecke Orchards and CSA helps a lot of people in the area. If you are located near West Brandywine Township in Chester County and can help out, there is planting help needed at Vollmecke. Help Karen Vollmecke plant onions and potatoes. Volunteers must be 16 and accompanied by an adult. Click here to sign up.
Volunteer at the Brandywine Roller Girls Event (May 18)
On Sunday, May 18 from 9-11 a.m., a volunteer is needed to attend the Brandywine Roller Girls event and act as an ambassador for the Food Bank, collect food donated and drop it off at the Food Bank. If interested, email [email protected].
