NEW FoodieTV App Goes Behind the Culinary Scenes to Showcase People & Places

Glam Media has released a new iOS app called FoodieTV, which showcases five hand-picked videos each week about the people and places behind our food. It’s free and now available in the App Store for iPad and iPhone.

Every Wednesday, the app showcases videos that explore the world through the lens of food. The videos are typically between 3–8 minutes long and are more like beautiful mini-documentaries about foragers, farmers, artisans or chefs. FoodieTV serves bite-sized culinary morsels in video form.

The app explores why we eat, what we eat and how a place can manifest itself in ingredients and techniques. I downloaded the app onto my iPad and was immediately struck by the beauty of the videos. The first one I watched, Episode 1 Goat Cheese, told the story of Joyce Powers, the owner of Spriggs Delight Farm in Sharpsburg, Maryland.  In just two and half minutes, the viewer gets to know how Joyce became a goat farmer, learn a bit about the method of making the goat cheese and most importantly, the passion that she brings to her product.

FoodieTV demonstrates the intersection of cuisine and culture. It explores a new form of entertainment that might shift us further away from linear television while not abandoning the beautiful end-of-the-day escapism that great programming can provide. Because each vignette is short, you can watch just one and see the beginning, middle and end of a food story. But, it is addictive and difficult to not devour all 5 of the weeks episodes in one sitting. Fortunately, it won’t take you more than a half hour to do so!

FoodieTV also provides recipes on their Facebook page, Pinterest and on Twitter. For more information, visit their website or download the app.
