Dock Street Brewing Company will celebrate its 30th anniversary by packaging and bottling its revered Rye IPA, the inaugural release from its package-line extension. This is the first time since 2004 that Dock Street has produced and sold bottled beer. Rye IPA bottles, cases and six-packs will be stocked on restaurant and beer store shelves.
“I’m excited because this product release represents the rebirth of Dock Street as we celebrate 30 years of craft brewing,” said company president and founder Rosemarie Certo. “The Rye IPA is the first beer we brewed at our firehouse brewery in West Philly when we opened in 2007, and we’re thrilled to fulfill the requests of wholesalers and craft beer lovers inside and outside of Philly.”
Dock Street uses Columbus, Simcoe and Amarillo hops in its 6.8% ABV American-style India Pale Ale. The 20% rye grain malt gives the trademark dry, refreshing and spicy character.
“We added a touch of rye to dry the beer and add an extra dimension to it,” beamed Certo. “It has become our number one selling beer because it’s a very balanced and well-rounded beer that pairs beautifully with all types of food or it can stand alone,” added Dock Street’s vice president Marilyn Candeloro. “A lot of IPAs are overly bitter, but Dock Street Rye IPA is pleasantly aggressive. You get the bright, fruity and interesting flavors of hops without all the bitterness.”
Dock Street’s firehouse brewery can only produce a limited amount of beers that are sold to craft beer bars and restaurants around the Delaware Valley. The new bottled beers hit store shelves and bar and restaurant menus throughout Pennsylvania and New Jersey in mid-November and are priced at approximately $10 for a six-pack and $40 per case.
