Tuesday, February 10, will be an amazing day for those who benefit from the Chester County Food Bank. Wegmans team members from the Downingtown and Malvern stores will be presenting a check for $92,040! The funds were raised through Wegmans’ Check Out Hunger campaign, in which customers and employees contribute at checkout and 100% of the proceeds are donated to each store’s local food bank. Store managers, service managers and top campaign fundraisers from Wegmans as well as Food Bank board members will be on hand as part of the presentation.
“We are so grateful for the partnership that we have with Wegmans,” says Larry Welsch, executive director of the Chester County Food Bank. “Partnerships like this are critical to fulfilling our mission to provide food for those in need in Chester County while focusing on hunger’s role in poverty, health and education.”
Check Out Hunger was held from October 19 to December 13 of last year. Regionally, this year’s campaign raised $79,011 more than last year; the Downingtown and Malvern stores raised $24,033 more over last year. In total, the Check Out Hunger campaign raised $315,708 to benefit food banks in southeastern Pennsylvania and Lehigh Valley. “These results are remarkable,” said Wegmans Pennsylvania Division Manager Blaine Forkell. “What our customers and employees appreciate about Check Out Hunger is that donations go directly toward helping people right in their own communities.”
