At last—fall is here! Leaves are changing their colors to a bright orange and red hue, the humidity is gone and sweet smells of Grandma’s pumpkin and apple pies are becoming common.
Although the temperature is getting cooler, it doesn’t mean you have to stay indoors. Take a peek at five different places in the Lehigh Valley where you can enjoy pumpkin picking and various activities for the entire family.
Unangst Tree Farms
You’ll never be bored at Unangst, which offers a multitude of options for children and adults alike.
This 112-acre farm formerly only offered Christmas trees. But 18 years ago Unangst jumped on the hayride and started to take part in celebrating the fall season.
Try your luck in a 1-acre corn maze for the kids or in a larger one for the adventurous. Play in the corn building and visit the animals in the petting zoo. And what’s a trip to a farm without a hayride to the pumpkin patch? Pick your jack o’lantern right off the vine!
You can also gather some accessories for your home while you’re there, including cornstalks, straw bales and gourds.
What’s more, schedule a Friday or Saturday night, grab a group of friends and head to Unangst Tree Farms for your very own private event. Bring supplies of s’mores and hot dogs to roast by a campfire after a 40-minute hayride. 7317 Bethlehem-Bath Pike, Bath, (610) 837-7531
Clear Spring Farm
For a bit of history, grab your boots and trek in the pumpkin patches at Clear Spring Farm. This farm has been around since 1933 and previously made its living as a dairy farm. It wasn’t until 1988 that pumpkins began to pop up in its fields.
Clear Spring’s patches are now open for the fall, allowing customers to pick from a variety of pumpkins for decorating, carving or baking, in addition to other fall harvest items. Kids will love the corn maze and other activities.
The farm is sustained with community-supported agriculture programs, in which people purchase shares of vegetables that are grown for the season. Here’s your chance to enjoy fall festivities and help out a local farm. 206 Richard Garr Rd., Easton, (610) 258-5050
Grim’s Orchard & Family Farms
Over 1,000 pumpkins can be found at Grim’s Orchard, just a short drive from Allentown.
With more than 17 acres of land, it’s no wonder so many are grown at the farm. For the fall season, some of that space is used for a 6-acre corn maze. If you’re feeling daring, bring a flashlight and try to find your way out at night.
Take a hayride tour, see a few barnyard animals and bring your camera for dozens of photo opportunities. Children’s activities are endless, with options such as duck races, a sand pit, basketball toss and more.
Grim’s also offers a full kitchen and bakery with scrumptious items to purchase. And if pumpkins aren’t your thing, you can pick some apples instead. 9941 Schantz Rd., Breinigsville, (610) 395-5655
Seiple Farms
There isn’t much you can’t do at Seiple Farms to celebrate the fall season. Family owned since 1889, the farm’s 30 acres will keep you busy for an entire day. From pumpkins and gourds to Indian corn and squash, there’s a very small chance you’ll leave empty handed.
In addition to picking your own fall items, you can visit with farm animals and even take a pony ride. Food and entertainment are available to help keep your energy up. No matter what you choose, you’re sure to create memories that last a lifetime.
Feeling lucky? Try Seiple Farms’ straw maze and corn maze after you finish your hayride to get there. 5761 Nor Bath Blvd., Bath, (610) 837-0847
Hausman Fruit Farm
This farm is sure to test your creativity. After picking your own pumpkins from Hausman’s patches, join your children and help bring out their artsy side as they make their own scarecrow and get their face painted. More hands-on activities include the opportunity for kids to play in the sand pits and discover the fun of corn tables.
Once you’re all finished being artistic, head through the 2-acre corn maze and mix and match a variety of apples after your hayride around the farm. Fresh baked goods like jams and breads are available for consumption; you’ll also find plenty of fall décor. 2824 Limeport Pike, Coopersburg, (267) 980-3409
