Brewery Ommegang Celebrates 20 Years with a ‘90s-Themed Party at City Tap House (Oct. 20)

 Brewery Ommegang City Tap House

City Tap House Logan Square will help Brewery Ommegang celebrate its 20th anniversary on Friday, October 20, with a special bash to honor this milestone, featuring all things ‘90s!

Guests will be transported back to the year 1997, when Ommegang was founded, and delve into the era with a ‘90s-themed photo booth, a recreation of George Costanza’s iconic “The Timeless Art of Seduction,” slap bracelets, ‘90s-themed fare, music and more.

As you sit and enjoy libations and meals throughout the day at City Tap House Logan Square, you’ll be entertained by classic ‘90s movies and TV shows (think Seinfeld; Beverly Hills, 90210; Saved By The Bell, etc.) being played on repeat all day on an 18-by-19-foot Planar screen, the city’s largest TV.

The theme party will unfold from 7–10 p.m., where guests can get down to an ultimate ‘90s-themed DJ dance party. Then, from 10 p.m.–1 a.m., Red Team Go!, a ‘90s tribute band, will take over to perform more classics.

Guests are encouraged to don their favorite ‘90s attire, such as overalls, scrunchies, neon windbreakers, bandanas, mood rings, frosted tips and more. It’s probably best to leave the rollerblades at home, though.

“Twenty years of excellence is reason enough to celebrate, but in planning the party, the ‘90s theme kept creeping back up, we decided to go full on,” said City Tap House brand director Andy Farrell. “The ‘90s were an explosive time for craft beer, and more so for pop culture.  We’re excited to celebrate the good, the bad and the ‘you gotta be kidding’ of the ‘90s all day on Friday!”

As for the brews of the evening, bartenders will be pouring Ommegang beers all night, including Hennepin, Rare Vos, Gnomegang, Short Sleeve Saison, Brunetta, Sirens’ Song, Fleur de Houblon, Lovely Dark and Deep, Soothsayer, Shadow Brewer, Three Philosophers, Smoked Porter, Bigger and more.

Additionally, guests will enjoy complimentary samples of Ommegang’s specialty 20th Anniversary Ale (11.5% ABV), a Belgian-style dark ale brewed with a careful blend of Munich, Special B, Cara-Vienne and Blackprinz malts with additions of Belgian candi sugar, aged in Buffalo Trace bourbon barrels for four months. The flavor of Ommegang’s 20th Anniversary Ale is mildly sweet, with notes of caramel and molasses mingling with hints of bourbon and oak.

“Philadelphia is a center of beer culture in the United States, and the city has always held a special place in the brewery’s heart,” said Brewery Ommegang president Doug Campbell. “We’re excited to celebrate this milestone with an incredible event at City Tap House, and with all of Ommegang’s friends in Philly that have been part of our story for the past 20 years.”

Guests will also enjoy ‘90s-themed fare, available all day on Friday, including the following dishes:

Yada Yada Yada Lobster Bisque ($10)

Oyster crackers, herb oil, lobster garnish

Wu-Tang Clams Ain’t Nuthin Ta Shuck Wit ($16)

Chorizo, fennel, tomato, Thai basil, homemade focaccia

Cheddar and Jalapeno Sock’ Em Poppers ($12)

Sour cream dip, tomato sauce

Michelangelo’s Supreme Pizza ($15)

Tomato sauce, mozzarella, olives, pepperoni, peppers, onions, mushrooms

Kenan & Kel’s Creamsicle Float ($9)

Orange soda, vanilla gelato

Dunk a’ roos ($9)

Funfetti dip, cinnamon sugar pita

Plus, Brewery Ommegang will be raffling off three pairs of tickets to Belgium Comes to Cooperstown (BCTC) 2018, the brewery’s annual beer festival in Cooperstown, New York. This gathering will feature a weekend of rare and hard-to-find Belgian import brews, Belgian-style ales from all over North America, gourmet food vendors, live music, on-site camping and more.
