Those who find happiness in hoppiness have a lot to celebrate this July Victory Brewing Company is rolling out Home Grown New American Lager, featuring in-your-face bold flavors courtesy of Azacca, Cascade, Centennial, Chinook, Citra and Mosaic hops.
These are not just any hops—these are American whole flower hops that “lead distinctly juicy, resinous aromas through a body of raw gold” in what’s destined to become a classic new American lager, according to Victory’s co-founder and co-brewmaster Bill Covaleski.
“Given our fascination with whole flower American hops and crisp lager fermentation, the arrival of Home Grown New American Lager should not surprise you,” Bill said. “What will surprise you is how well we got these flavorful hops to play within the subdued yet satisfying context of a crisp, golden lager.”
Upon first bringing the glass to the nose, thirsty beer lovers will note a healthy dose of pine, citrus rind and hop resins. That’s followed by a burst of tangerine citrus flavor and a touch of pilsner maltiness, which finally transitions to a very clean lager finish. The hops’ refreshing nature and character and light body makes the drinkability off the charts.
“True to our roots, we embody European quality and American ingenuity in all of our brewing efforts,” Bill added. “But seldom do the two influences come together as they have in Home Grown New American Lager, where an aromatic and delicious blaze of whole flower American hop glory sits above a golden, crisp lager body.”
This welcome addition to Victory’s crowd-pleasing lineup will arrive at all three brewpubs on July 1, and will be available in bottles throughout the Philadelphia area (and in other lucky markets!). Phillies “phans” also finally have something to celebrate this season, thanks to Home Grown American Lager Happy Hours at the XFINITY Live! Victory Beer Hall across from Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia. Those special events will feature $3 pints of Home Grown New American Lager.
