Jet Wine Bar Celebrates Seven Years with a Week-Long Party (Nov. 10–16)

Philly is known for being a great beer city, but its wine scene has also been steadily growing and evolving over the past decade. One of the major influencers to that growth is Jet Wine Bar, self-described as Philadelphia’s “global vineyard,” a cozy and approachable wine bar on South Street.

Jet Wine Bar

Jet Wine Bar opened its doors almost exactly seven years ago, and from November 10–16,  it’s celebrating its birthday with all kinds of fun, throwback-themed specials.

“We wanted to share our anniversary with all of our guests and Jet Wine Bar fans,” said Jill Weber, Jet Wine Bar owner and wining archaeologist. “And what better way to celebrate than with a week of good food, good wine and a little time travel?”

Of course, there are going to be spectacular wines on offer! A selection of 2010 vintage red and white wines from regions across the globe will be available all week, for just $9–$16 a glass. Choose from Riesling, Vino Budimir Margus Margi (Serbia), Tempranillo Vino Eguia Reserva (Spain), Montepulciano Valle Reale (Italy) and more.

Prefer a cocktail? There are two options to choose from: the Flux Capacitor (vodka, lime, Crème de Violette and mint) and Great Scott! (scotch, vermouth, bitters and orange peel). Sensing a theme? With a little wink to how fast time flies, Jet will be playing time travel movies and TV shows all week long, such as Back to the Future, Twilight ZoneQuantum LeapStar TrekDr. Who and more!

Why stop the Back to the Future puns there? Chef Yasi Sapp has created a fun menu of food specials, like The Delorean Pizza, with green peppers, capicola, fresh mozaarella and garlic tomato sauce on housemade dough; Nobody-Calls-Me-Chicken Wings tossed in orange chipotle sauce; and Outathyme Hummus Plate, with fresh veggies and toasted pita.

The celebration week continues with the Wine Tasting for Thanksgiving: Return to the Roost event on Tuesday, November 14. This “old school” Thanksgiving wine tasting, hosted by Weber, will feature old vines, old techniques, old families and old grapes. Tickets are $35, and the featured wines on deck include:

  • Domaine Plageoles, Gaillac Mauzac Nature (2015)
  • Cacique Maravilla, Valle del Bío-Bío Gutiflower (2015)
  • Cirelli, Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo (2016)
  • Domaine de Botheland Laurence et Remi Dufaitre, Beaujolais-Villages L’Air de Rien (2013)
  • Tenuta la Favola, Nero d’Avola Sicilia IGP (2015)
