Now Open in West Chester: Miss Winnie’s Authentic Jamaican Food

Miss Winnie's

A new eatery, Miss Winnie’s, has opened its doors at 211 East Market Street in West Chester and is serving up enticing Jamaican fare.

All of your favorite Jamaican dishes are up for grabs, including jerk chicken, fried plantains, a chicken BBQ sandwich and even a curry goat platter (only served on Friday and Saturday evenings). Other Friday and Saturday dinner specials include oxtail stew, a curry chicken platter and a BBQ chicken leg entree. Although the restaurant is mostly a carryout destination for lunch and dinner, there are a few tables inside for those who want to order at the counter and stay to eat.

Miss Winnie’s is owned by father-son duo Bert and Nick Johnston, who draw inspiration from Bert’s Jamaican heritage. Born and raised in Jamaica until age 15, Bert learned to cook from his mother, Miss Winnie, which is where the restaurant gets its name.

The two explained that Miss Winnie was a motherly figure not only to their family, but also to friends and even strangers in the United States and Jamaica. The restaurant honors Miss Winnie’s name as well as her cooking legacy. Bert and Nick decided that now was the time to make the dream of opening a restaurant a reality. After looking at various areas, they settled on the West Chester location because they knew they could bring a unique offering to the town’s dining scene.

The restaurant is currently open for business, and on Wednesday, November 8, Miss Winnie’s will host its grand opening celebration, featuring samples, a photo booth and the opportunity to meet the Miss Winnie’s owners and staff. The current hours of operation are Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m.–7 p.m.

Visit Miss Winnie’s for delectable Jamaican dishes, and be sure to stop in for the grand opening celebration on November 8 to welcome this authentic Jamaican food restaurant to town!
