Every year for over a century, Pennsylvanians have gathered at the PA Farm Show to explore, learn and experience everything there is to know about agriculture in the Commonwealth. The 103rd-Annual PA Farm Show is scheduled for January 5 through January 12, 2019 at the PA Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg.
We’re loving this movie-style trailer that the Farm Show released on its Facebook page:
We’re also loving its hashtag, #PennsylvaniasStory. Because although the numbers are impressive — after all, the Pennsylvania Farm Show is the nation’s largest indoor agricultural event, featuring 6,000 animals, 10,000 competitive exhibits, and 300 commercial exhibitors — the impact and importance of agriculture in PA really comes down to stories: Who are the farmers, the growers, the producers and the makers in our state? What motivates them? How do they push, year after year, against all of the obstacles and challenges that come with the job? These are questions we ask and pursue here at PA Eats, and the PA Farm show is like seeing this all come to life in real time.
There is so much to get excited for at this year’s PA Farm Show, with a packed schedule and plenty of opportunities to experience amazing food.
The Food Court offers locally made snacks and treats, like honey waffles from the PA Beekeeper’s Association, deep-fried mushrooms from the PA Mushroom Growers Cooperative, caramel apples from the State Horticultural Association and, of course, legendary milkshakes from the PA Dairymen’s Association and potato donuts from the PA Cooperative Potato Growers, Inc.
Head to the PA Marketplace to sample and shop from over 50 local artisans and companies, they’ll be vending everything from candy to condiments. Also, be sure to keep an eye out for the Culinary Connections schedule (coming soon), which is eight days of programming all about Pennsylvania food, featuring samples, displays and cooking demonstrations by local chefs, media personalities and special guests.
We’ve barely scratched the surface of all that the PA Farm Show will have to offer, so be sure to stay tuned to PA Eats for more coverage as the 2019 date draws nearer!
