For the past year, the owners of the Barn Shops have been working on rejuvenating the shops and are working closely with the Brandywine River Museum of Art and Conservancy, the Chadds Ford Historical Society, and the community, in general, to restore the Barn Shops back to the community hub it once was.
Recently, Bri Brant, part of the family of owners, moved her Arden + James handbag shop into the Village and has done some beautification projects, as well. Bri says, “We are working with some of our favorite people to create an unassuming cafe that will fit perfectly with the art, beauty and wellness business we host at the Barn Shops.”
In creating the café, Brant and her family are partnering with some of their favorite locals, like Brandywine Coffee Roasters, to create their very own “Barn Shops” coffee blend. They’re also working with Chef and Potter Pam Lau, formerly of Talula’s Table and Sovana Bistro, and Romano’s Original Stromboli (did you know they invented the stromboli?).
The menu will be as simple and delicious as possible, in order to accommodate the community. Expect to enjoy items such as banana carrot muffins and hot chocolate cookies to pair with your coffee. On the savory side, guests will find a selection of Romano’s Original strombolis.
Most importantly, the folks behind the Barn Shops want to create a friendly community space for people to casually meet and enjoy the historic buildings and green spaces. Brant says, “We need a spot like this in my hometown of Chadds Ford. My family is devoting our energy to create this for the community.” And, as far as future plans go, Brant says they will grow as the community needs them to.
