While we think there’s something special about every village, borough, township and city in Pennsylvania, it is a fact that some places in the middle of our state are often overlooked by the mainstream food media. Little do they know how many gems there are in the expanse of the Commonwealth between Philly and Pittsburgh! That’s why we’re so happy to see a travel feature about Harrisburg’s up-and-coming food scene in a recent post on Food & Wine magazine’s website.
The Broad Street Market gets a big shout-out from the writer, with special mentions of Elementary Coffee Co. (who we’ve been longtime fans of), Urban Churn, Knead, Raising the Bar and Pikowski’s Pierogi Place. We love the market and all its hustle bustle, but we’re glad that the post digs further into Harrisburg’s culinary community, with shout-outs to Millworks and Alvaro Bread & Pastry Shoppe.
We can’t help but feel, though, that the article stopped way short. Of course, no blog post can list everything there is to eat in PA’s state capital, but we would’ve loved to see a few more suggestions for Food & Wine readers. What about The Vegetable Hunter, Midstate Distillery and Bacco? Trust us, we could go on!
