If you’ve ever feasted on the Italian creations at Pizzeria Vetri in Philly or D.C. and walked out wondering, “Could I ever do that at home?” The answer, now, is: Yes, you can!
Though you might not have a hulking wood-fired oven imported from Italy in your kitchen, you can still get on the ‘za train with help from one of Philadelphia’s most acclaimed chefs and pizza masters, Marc Vetri. His newest cookbook, Mastering Pizza: The Art and Practice of Handmade Pizza, Focaccia, and Calzone just came out, and inside its pages, you’ll find recipes, techniques and chef secrets to help you make perfect dough and sauce, choose the best cheese and toppings, and put it all together in your very own home kitchen.
To celebrate, Chef Vetri will be briefly returning to the kitchen of Pizzeria Vetri’s flagship Art Museum location on Tuesday, September 11, from 6–9 p.m. He’ll be sharing recipes from the book, signing copies and answering pizza-making questions.
PV Rittenhouse also has some fun events to look forward to:
Tuesday, September 11, also marks the kick-off of a new monthly trivia night, co-hosted with Stateside Vodka. During the trivia night, enjoy $10 Stateside cocktails, $10 pizzas and prizes.
On Tuesday, September 25, at 6:30 p.m., check out the first PV On Tap featuring Sly Fox Brewing Company. Meet the brewers and sip on a few of their beers paired with specialty pizzas from the kitchen.
And, if you’ve picked up your copy of Mastering Pizza but still desire some hands-on experience, sign up for the October session of Pizza After Dark couples’ cooking class (September is already sold out!). The experience includes two pizzas and toppings, a carafe of wine or pitcher of beer, dessert and instruction, for $85 per couple.
