The wait is over! PA Eats announced way back in May of 2017 that Andrew Kochan and Chef Tim Lanza of Marigold Kitchen in Philadelphia would be opening a second concept in Rittenhouse. We’re glad to report that the doors to TALK are now open!
Located at 2121 Walnut Street, formerly the space of L’Image Photography Studios, this New American restaurant and bar is all about seasonal cuisine with locally sourced ingredients and craft cocktails. The aesthetic is very “early 20th century hotel bar” art deco-meets-gothic. The interior, designed by Kochan with help from artist Aissulu Kadyrzhanova, features a 14-seat mezzanine perched above the restaurant and bar. The dining room offers 26 seats, with another 15 seats at the white marble-topped bar. Reportedly, outdoor dining is coming soon.
While Marigold Kitchen earned its reputation for its avant garde tasting menus, TALK will offer an a la carte menu of both small and large plates.
“Look for contemporary cuisine, inspired by various cultural influences,” explains Kochan. “We are also heavily focused on working with as many local producers as possible.”
Menu highlights include small plates, like a daily oyster selection with rotating accompaniments, beef tartare with quail egg, mustard on sourdough, panzanella with strawberries, basil jam, sourdough and burrata, and a mushroom terrine and tart.
Large plates, which currently number only three, include pasta with Parmesan, morels, fig and prosciutto; filet mignon with potato, caramelized onion and truffle; and scallops with succotash, country ham, cornbread and huitlacoche.
The menu maxes out at $30 (for the filet), meaning you have room in your budget for one of the creative cocktails from the bar (we’re already dreaming of the Desert Rose with Bluecoat barrel-aged gin, Lo-Fi gentian amaro, strawberry shrub and rose-peppercorn syrup), a glass of wine from the well-curated list, and/or dessert.
Dinner at TALK is served Tuesday through Sunday from 4–11 p.m, and the bar is open until 1 a.m. Happy hour and brunch service will be added in the coming weeks. Grab a reservation by calling the restaurant or claiming your seats via OpenTable.
