With Labor Day behind us, it’s full steam ahead into back-t0-school mode and, maybe, if the heat ever breaks, some actual fall vibes. Autumn is a bustling time in the restaurant industry, and we’ve got some news to share from all across Pennsylvania!
Gettysburg
The Hoof, Fin & Fowl, a new seafood restaurant on Baltimore Street (in a former Subway sandwich restaurant, adjacent to the National Cemetery) is gearing up to open next week. Full service will begin on Thursday, September 13, by reservation or invite only, and Friday, September 14, it will be open to all. The menu, which is heavily influenced by classic Baltimore food culture, will focus on all-you-can-eat crabs. The deal, which, to start, will only be available after 5 p.m. on Wednesdays and Fridays, lasts for two hours and runs $29.95 per person, including fresh cut fries, hand-battered onion rings and corn on the cob. Reservations for the all-you-can-eat deal are highly recommended. Crabs will also be available for carryout by the half-dozen, dozen, and half or full bushel. Little Baby’s Ice Cream will be opening its third Philadelphia-based location at 12th and Ludlow (inside the new East Market building) on Friday, September 7. The crew will be celebrating the occasion with a grand-opening party from 4–7 p.m. Billed as a “Pop-Up Block Party,” Little Baby’s will welcome Federal Donuts with its mini donuts, Iron Hill Brewery & Restaurant with its root beer, Inspired Brews with its booch, The Philadelphia Insectarium and Butterfly Pavilion, Reverse Birds and more. Sergeant York, a new bar in Fishtown in the former Jovan’s, has announced an October 2018 opening. David and Jacob Cohen (a father-and-son team) will be operating the spot, offering, according to their Instagram page, “brews, booze and good food.” Stay tuned for more info. 2327 E. On Saturday, September 8, Chef Jose Garces’ restaurant Distrito will celebrate its 10th anniversary with an all-day block party on Chestnut Street between 39th and 40th. Running from 11:30 a.m.–7 p.m., the fiesta will include live entertainment, a beer garden, food, drinks and giveaways. Chef Garces will be in attendance! Bring the family along, as there will be kids’ activities, like coloring, face painting, a photo booth and more. High Street on Market, the wildly popular eatery in Old City owned by Ellen Kim and Eli Kulp (of Fork fame), has announced a new culinary team, as well as updated breakfast, lunch and dinner menus. Chef Andrew Farley, Head Baker Allison Charnitski and Pastry Chef Aaron Manuyag have stepped into their new roles and are bringing fun and exciting dishes to the menu, such as beef carpaccio “Philly-Style,” with spicy peppers, “whiz wit” and hoagie crostini, orange spelt baguette and

Jason’s Toridasu, a closet-sized take out sushi spot in Ardmore, has opened a second location in City Ave. in Bala Cynwyd. Known for fresh options and an excellent $10 lunch special (choice of one of seven types of sushi rolls, a garden salad, a cup of miso soup and a bottle of water), plus great daily specials, like gorgeous bluefin tuna sashimi, this 25-seat spot will be a great addition to the area. Gift Horse Brewing Company, which has been brewing craft beer at its family farm in York for the past three years, has just opened a tasting room in late August on George Street in Downtown York. There are now five breweries in a 26-block radius in York!
“When the opportunity to launch Gift Horse Brewing Company arose, our first and only choice was Downtown York,” says Jason Snyder, co-owner of Gift Horse. “We all have roots that are firmly planted here and we wanted to be a part of the community and its ever-evolving scene.”
Stop by for a taste of Gift Horse’s starting lineup!
