Starting on Monday, May 7, a Rittenhouse favorite, a.bar at AKA Rittenhouse Square, will add early morning hours to its service roster with coffee, pastries and quick-serve breakfast served weekdays beginning at 7 a.m.
Executive Chef Eli Collins of sister restaurant a.kitchen will oversee the tempting and convenient breakfast menu, which features grab-and-go egg options, a smart selection of pastries, as well as yogurt, bagels and other breakfast choices, all perfect to snack on quickly at the bar, or to take to go as fuel for a productive day.
“The idea of coffee at a cocktail bar was inspired by the bustling all-day cafes of Europe. It’s common for your neighborhood cafe to be your first stop when you leave home in the morning, and also your preferred place once work has ended. We can’t wait to offer similarly expanded hours and accommodating service to our friends and neighbors around Rittenhouse Square,” says operator Ellen Yin, of High Street Hospitality Group, whose group has reinvigorated a.kitchen + bar over the last four years. “a.bar is the perfect gathering spot for the morning, whether you are just stopping by to grab a coffee and one of our build-your-own egg sandwiches, or a great spot for a meeting, with healthy choices like yogurt, fruit or bagels.”
Some of the tasty morning culinary offerings which a.bar will serve up include:
- Pastries, including sweet and savory croissants, muffins, scones and donuts freshly baked from Old City’s critically acclaimed High Street Bakery (part of High Street Hospitality Group) otherwise only available at Rival Bros. in Center City
- Eggs, including Chef Collins’ clever build-your-own egg sandwich on a High Street brioche bun, with optional add-ons, such as lamb sausage, kale jam and French onion cream, as well as a breakfast crepe and a grab-and-go baked egg soufflé
- Snacks, including yogurt, fresh fruit, and bagels with cream cheese
- Coffees, including hot and iced drip coffee and espresso drinks, as well as French press, cold brew, hot tea and a signature “Wake-Up Call” of Earl Grey and lavender honey cortado
- Caffe Correto, the Italian tradition of “corrected coffee” with a shot of liqueur of choice, such as amaretto or grappa.
Coffees will range in price from $2 for regular or decaf Rival Bros. Drip Coffee to $13 for an espresso martini; pastries and eggs will range in price from $4 for Parmesan-dill scones and lemon-poppy seed financiers to $10 for the signature breakfast crepe with royal ham and Gruyere.
