Great news for all you carnivores in town: The Primal Supply Butcher Shop is now open full-time in South Philly! Over the past few weeks, the team had been holding “soft open” days on occasional weekends, but the shop is now ready to rock multiple days throughout each week!
Primal Supply Meats may sound familiar, as it initially sold meat via farmers markets and its CSA-style Butcher’s Club program, both of which will continue through its new space.
The team behind Primal Supply Meats decided to open the shop to continue growing responsibly while increasing its impact and supporting its network of farmers. It also wanted the opportunity to have a traditional meat counter where customers can ask questions and have conversations about what they’re purchasing.

Owned and operated by butcher Heather Thomason, Primal Supply Meats is committed to providing sustainable, pasture-raised meat to Philadelphia and sources directly from local farmers, all while working with other mission-aligned organizations to fill the shop’s shelves. Thomason believes in the craft of whole-animal butchery, supplying cuts to customers and professional kitchens and meat subscriptions to families and individuals.
In addition to fresh, pasture-raised meats, Primal Supply Meat’s retail space offers a curated selection of fruits and veggies from Philly’s Riverwards Produce, artisan cheeses from some of our favorite makers, like Birchrun Hills Farm and Valley Milkhouse, and other pantry goodies from Keepwell Vinegar, Soom Foods and Three Springs Fruit Farm.
Looks like we know where we’ll be doing all of our shopping in the city!
