Just shy of a year after opening its Easton taproom, Søle Artisan Ales has changed its name, quite literally, overnight.
On Tuesday, Søle posted a cryptic video on Instagram: a black background with the word “Søle” written in a white font. Each letter faded away, leaving nothing but the blank space, and the copy read, “Release, replace, separate, and re-imagine …”
It wasn’t until Wednesday morning that it posted again, this time as a different Instagram handle altogether: @separatist.beer. The post featured a new, blinking “S” logo with copy explaining the transition.

In the announcement, Separatist Beer Project explained the transition it experienced over the past few years:
“What started out 3 years ago as Søle Artisan Ales, a singular Gypsy Brewer’s fermentative experiment, has evolved into a more expansive, exciting, and inspired group effort.
In the growth from ‘one’ to ‘many’, and the shifting of ‘ales’ to an array of ‘co-mingled’ fermentation, our original moniker had been rendered obsolete. It was time to evolve.”
And as if this isn’t big enough news on its own, Separatist Beer Project has announced a Philly outpost on Passyunk Ave., describing the space as a “concept bar and beer experience.” Construction has already begun, and it’s anticipating opening before the end of 2018.

For a peek into Separatist’s vibe, check out its new website. Søle’s sleek and modern feel has been replaced with a bold, funkier look.
And don’t worry about your favorite Søle beers, as they’ll live on under the Separarist name. The Easton location will also remain open, just under the name Separatist Bar + Bottle.
If you’re familiar with Søle’s policy of only filling Sole-branded growlers, Separatist will continue to fill all Søle-branded growlers, and members of the “Søle Society” fan club will still receive discounts.
You can find Separatist Bar + Bottle at 101 Northampton St. in Easton; phone: (610) 330-9114.
