The PA Ice Cream Trail Expands Across the State for 2019 Season

If you consider summer “eat-ice-cream-every-day” season, then we’ve got some good news for you: The Pennsylvania Ice Cream Trail has expanded, from 12 creameries in Eastern and South Central PA, to a total of 32 stops for 2019. This year, no matter what part of the state you live in or that you’re traveling through, you can “Pursue Your Scoops” across three trails: Western, South Central and Eastern Pennsylvania, all of which feature hand-selected PA Preferred® chosen creameries.

The PA Ice Cream Trail kicked off in 2018 as a partnership of the PA Department of Agriculture’s PA Preferred® program, VisitPA and the Center for Dairy Excellence (CDE) to highlight dairy destinations across Pennsylvania. Dairy is, after all, the largest sector of Pennsylvania’s $135.7 billion agriculture industry,

“The only thing better than eating delicious ice cream is knowing your purchase supports Pennsylvania farms and Pennsylvania’s economy,” said Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding at a recent Ice Cream Trail kick-off event at Chester Springs Creamery at Milky Way Farm in Chester Springs, PA. “Learning the story of how food is made, and seeing that connection between the cow and the cone, adds even more fun.”

“The dairy industry is an important part of Pennsylvania agriculture and our economy as a whole,” added DCED Deputy Secretary Carrie Fischer Lepore . “We’re proud to support that industry through these ice cream trails. These ice cream trails help tell the stories of Pennsylvania’s ice cream makers and how their ice cream is a truly home-grown treat for families to enjoy all summer long.”

Just like last year, Ice Cream Trail participants carry a special passport (find it and download it here) that can be stamped to earn prizes, like t-shirts and ice cream bowls, at locations along each stop on the trail. Visitors are encouraged to share photos from the trail using #PursueYourScoops; your snap might even be featured on VisitPA’s website and social media channels!
