Every year, Food & Wine magazine puts out a list of the best new restaurants in the country to highlight the bright new stars making a splash across the national scene. Exciting news for diners in and around Philadelphia: This year’s number 1 spot has been claimed by Cadence, a BYOB in South Kensington (right on the border of Fishtown).

Cadence opened in the spring of 2018 to much local acclaim. The trio of chef/owners, Chef Jon Nodler and Pastry Chef Samantha Kincaid and Chef Michael Fry, all came from the highly respected High Street Hospitality Group, and brought with them a sophisticated-but-rustic style (including a wood-fired oven) with thoughtful touches, locally sourced ingredients and advanced techniques. As the Food & Wine feature points out, the Cadence vibe hits a lovely note, a warm, hospitable atmosphere, so unlike stuffy fine-dining, but with expertly-executed menu items you aren’t likely to find elsewhere.
While it may be tough to get a reservation in the next few months, go check out this lovely little spot in North Philly to see what the hype is about! And congrats to the whole Cadence crew on this awesome recognition!
Find Cadence at 161 W. Girard Ave. in Philadelphia; phone: (215) 419-7537.
