So much has changed in the past week, it feels like we’re all experiencing collective dizziness. Gathering with friends and family, going out to bars and restaurants, shopping in our local markets, and just generally being immersed in Pennsylvania food culture are some of our favorite parts of life, and without them, it’s easy to feel lost.
This moment in time feels especially prescient for a digital publication like ours, as it begs the questions: Can we create real community via virtual platforms?
Our answer is a resounding YES! We’ve spent the last few days sorting through many of the options that we have to continue to amplify the voices and stories of food and agriculture in Pennsylvania, and we’re making some plans that we’re actually feeling really excited about. Much of this is still in the works, but here are some of the innovative changes you can expect from PA Eats:
- Using our platform to continue telling the stories of the people, places, produce and products right here in PA.
- Creating virtual social spaces to gather members of the food community together to connect, to share resources, and to just spend some time together.
- Gathering videos, recipes and DIY tips from Pennsylvania chefs, makers, bartenders, etc. to craft a Pennsylvania-centric cooking channel to keep us all inspired at home.
- Providing recipes for nutritious, satisfying affordable meals that rely on common pantry staples.
- Updating readers with resources for emergency food services, and also providing ways to help the community.
Pennsylvania, we love you. We’re here for you. We are going to work harder than ever to be a place you can come to, not just for great content about PA food, but as a way to connect with one another.
We’ll be sharing more details on these projects soon! In the meantime, if there is specific content you’d like to see that would help you feel more connected to the local food world during this time of extreme social distancing, let us know!
