Philly food pros are banding together to participate in an innovative new fundraising initiative called AskChefsAnything. From May 13 to 17, local chefs, like Jen Carroll, Jesse Ito and Kiki Aranita, wine pros like Sande Friedman and Chloe Grigri, and food writers like Tenaya Darlington and Michael Klein are auctioning off 30 minutes of their time. The highest bidder will enjoy a one-on-one 30-minute Zoom call with that person, and the opportunity to ask them anything they wish.
If you’ve been working on making ice cream at home, perhaps you’d like some insight from Weckerly’s Ice Cream founder, Jen Satinsky. If pasta and pizza are your passion, bid for a chance to get Marc Vetri on the line. Whatever your culinary passion, there is a pro at #AskChefsAnything ready for your Q&A. The auctions are open now with 37 different potential conversations to choose from!

This creative model for fundraising was conceived of by New York-based startup founders and food industry veterans, Gaeleen Quinn and Anna Polonsky. Their focus is to help the community within the restaurant world that is most impacted by the COVID crisis: immigrant workers.
On their website, they note,
Even though the immigrant workforce contributes billions annually in state and local taxes, many of them were not included in the federal relief packages and cannot claim unemployment benefits. They cannot find another job locally because their visas depend on a single employer; they cannot travel to their countries because borders are closed and they may not be able to come back.
With the sponsorship of The Chefs’ Warehouse, the funds raised from #AskChefsAnything will provide groceries for 250 vulnerable immigrant households connected to SEAMAAC and living in Philadelphia. This model will be used in different American cities, like Los Angeles and New York.
Who’s the Philly chef or culinary pro you’d most like to chat with? Don’t wait to get involved, as this special opportunity is only available until Sunday, May 17!
