All across Pennsylvania, there are restaurants featuring unique and unexpected architecture and beautiful, breathtaking views. You can get a scoop of ice cream in a giant shoe, a cup of coffee from a gazebo, a beer from an eternal tap, among so many other quirky, fun experiences. Now, there’s another unusual PA dining adventure that you can try: having dinner in an igloo!
The Beaumont Inn, in Dallas, PA, is a gorgeous destination in Northeast Pennsylvania for events, fine dining and lodging. Situated on 50 acres of artfully landscaped property, including a large botanical garden, the stately inn is flanked by a large terrace that overlooks Leonard Creek. The outdoor patio, which includes a fire pit, tiki torches and twinkly string lights, is a popular choice for diners at The Beaumont during warmer months, which inspired the team there to consider how to make the area usable year-round. Inspired by other igloo dining experiences they’d seen (it’s a big thing in the Midwest), the team at the Inn launched four dining igloos on February 1, 2020.
“We knew we had such a unique experience [on the patio], and hoped we could provide guests with that through the winter months as well,” says Sheila Humphrey, General Manager & Special Events Manager at The Beaumont. “And as with anything at The Beaumont, we made it amazing.”
Each dining igloo was beautifully designed by MCR Design Group with its own aesthetic concept, color themes and decor. The structures, which are constructed of a plastic geodesic dome overlaid with crystal clear plastic, are fully heated and include added textural touches like carpeting, lighting elements, luxurious lap blankets and fur throws.
“The tables are fully set and include candles and lanterns which bring a cool vibe to the dining experience,” Humphrey notes. “Many guests have told us they are surprisingly very warm, cozy and romantic, with great service.”
The igloos are like cozy private dining rooms with a private server, and can accommodate 2 to 8 guests. The full menu from The Beaumont’s seasonally-driven restaurant (plus drinks from the bar) is available in the igloos, and Humphrey assures us that the food arrives hot from the kitchen. Reservations last for two hours, and the fees are $25 on weekdays and Sundays and $50 on Fridays and Saturdays. The Dining Igloos at The Beaumont are a seasonal offering and will remain open in 2020 until the first week of April. Then, they will close down for the summer and fall, and reopen again in November. These amazing igloos are sure to book up quickly, so don’t miss your chance to experience a wonderful meal in a snug, warm little igloo, dining under the stars in wintertime!
