York County Food Bank’s Iron Chef Competition Makes Epicurean Use of Pantry Staples

The York County Food Bank, known for strengthening its community by distributing millions of meals every year, is set to put on its annual fundraiser, the 2024 Iron Chef Competition. This year’s Iron Chef will be held on Monday, August 26 at 5:30 p.m. at Wyndridge Farm in Dallastown.

Tickets are going fast for this hot event, featuring four local chefs cooking up three dishes each. Hunter Roloson of Wyndridge Farm, Joshua House of The JDK Group, Brian Cooper of Farmacy Café and Catering and Will Shaw of C&J Catering are set to create an appetizer, main entrée and dessert using ingredients commonly found at the food bank. The audience members then vote for their favorites!

Last year’s appetizers included stewed chicken-stuffed wontons, catfish hushpuppies with Cajun kimchi, boudin balls with rice, sausage and catfish, and the winning open-faced, fried empanadas with shredded chicken thigh, pumpkin molé, queso fresco and coriander, created by Jay Varga of The JDK Group. Guests also enjoyed mouthwatering entreés like Creole style catfish, whiskey chicken colcannon and chicken and chorizo stuffed pepper.

“We look forward to sampling creations from these amazing local chefs,” said Jennifer Brillhart, York County Food Bank’s President and CEO. “And we are so grateful for all the support we have received for this event, which helps to feed the hungry in our community.”

More than 60,000 people in York County do not have access to food. The fundraiser is a response to this need, and all of the proceeds benefit efforts towards increasing dignified access to nutritious food and community resources while enhancing food security throughout the area.
