Shamrock Shakes – the thick, creamy, minty green treats – are back! And maybe you’re craving one, but can’t bring yourself to get in your car and and take the drive of shame past the takeout window.
Well, we’re shaking things up and offering better — and a few healthy-ish — options to indulge in this holiday season. Get your shake on at these locations across Pennsylvania:
Millie’s Homemade
Find your shamrock fix at any of Millie’s Pittsburgh scoop shops in March. The Shammy Shake combines vanilla-mint ice cream with crushed green-frosted sugar cookies for a perfect hue, topped with whipped cream and a cherry for good measure. Millie’s offers dairy-free and vegan options, too, like a dairy-free mint-chip gelato that can sub right in for lactose-free indulgence. Locations throughout the Greater Pittsburgh area.
Burgatory Bar

In the Pittsburgh area, this local burger-and-fries chain expertly turns local ingredients into crave-worthy bites. To celebrate St. Patrick’s Day this year, it’s making super minty, extra thick milkshakes with Girl Scout’s Thin Mints and house turned vanilla bean ice cream, available March 13 -19. It pairs perfectly with one of Burgatory’s famed signature burgers . Multiple locations.
Handel’s Ice Cream

Handel’s Ice Cream has been dishing out its homemade treats since 1945. And trust us, it has perfected the creamy art of ice cream. This is the place to go for milkshakes, and the mint Oreo and mint chocolate chip shakes are divine. Enjoy them in classic, super-thick milkshake form or try Handel’s hurricanes, swirled to order with plenty of inclusions. Locations throughout Pennsylvania.
Diamond Square Market
In Williamsport you’ll find scrumptious minty shakes at the Diamond Square Market. Every March, the market offers its classic mint milkshake with a mint flavor shot in vanilla soft serve ice cream and a chocolate syrup swirl throughout, topped with chocolate chip-speckled whipped cream. You can also power-up with the cafe’s Andes Latte made with the smooth mint-chocolate candies. 2131 W. 4th St., Williamsport; (570) 567-7322.
Rachel’s Creperie
Believe it or not, Rachel’s Creperie offers way more than crepes. Its team is always working on creating fun, new drinks inspired by the season. This month is no different with Rachel’s Shamrock Shake creation. It’s made by combining Nutella with everyone’s flavor of Girl Scout Cookies, and local crème de mint milk! 201 W. Walnut St., Lancaster; (717) 399-3515.
Tomato Pie Cafe
Tomato Pie Cafe is an urban style eatery with an artful menu executed to perfection, both visually and tastefully. Sweet Ride
Sweet Ride is a local favorite for ice cream treats all year long. It’s seasonal and holiday-themed desserts are on-point, including the Thin Mint Milkshake. This treat, available during Girl Scout cookie season (which corresponds with St. Patty’s Day) is a blend of mint chocolate chip ice cream, Thin Mint cookie crumbles, and chocolate sauce, swirled and topped with whipped cream, more chocolate and a Thin Mint cookie garnish. Enjoy it while it’s here! 542 Penn Ave., West Reading; (484) 987-7338.
Vegan Treats
While this isn’t technically a shake, the Shammy Shake soft serve at Vegan Treats deserves a place on this list! In addition to drop-dead gorgeous cakes, incredible cookies, brownies and so much more, this legendary vegan bakery offers a rotating schedule of dairy-free soft serve each week. Every year, right around St. Patty’s Day, it rolls out its fan favorite, a perfectly green minty flavor. Try it on its own or swirled with vanilla. 1444 Linden St., Bethlehem; (610) 861-7660.
