Ingredients
- 1 (15-ounce) can chickpeas, rinsed and drained, or 1 1/2 cups cooked chickpeas, patted dry
- 2 large yellow onions, thinly sliced
- 1 1/2 teaspoons chili powder, curry powder or turmeric
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt, divided
- 1/2 teaspoon pepper, divided
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 cup plain yogurt
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 lemon, juiced, or 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley, or 1 teaspoon dried parsley, for garnish (optional)
Method
- Preheat oven to 400°F. Line rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
- Mash chickpeas using a fork or potato masher until they are ground but not completely smooth. Transfer to large mixing bowl and add onions, chili powder, baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon of salt and 1/4 teaspoon of pepper.
- Portion dough into 10-12 even patties about 1/2-inch in thickness. Transfer patties to prepared baking sheet and brush lightly with oil.
- Bake, flipping halfway through, until golden-brown and crisp, about 25-30 minutes.
- Meanwhile, whisk together yogurt, garlic powder, lemon juice, remaining salt and pepper in medium bowl until smooth.
- Garnish fritters with parsley and serve with garlic yogurt sauce.
