Making your own applesauce may seem like a day-long DIY project, but here’s a little secret: It’s totally not! After peeling, coring and cutting up the apples (a great chore to recruit the kids to help you), it’s a simple matter of simmering the apples with a splash of water, a touch of cinnamon and a drizzle of local maple syrup for under half an hour. Homemade Pennsylvania applesauce makes a great topping for pancakes, a spread for muffins and breads, a condiment for pork chops, or simply a fantastic snack on its own.
